Lebo - Wayne Eugene Hirt, 74, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on February 9, 1949, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Wayne and Velma (Rockers) Hirt.

Gene, as he was known to all, was raised on a farm near Harris and attended grade school in Harris. He graduated from Williamsburg High School and then graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a degree in engineering.

Gene worked for the Bendix Corporation as an aeronautic missile engineer until he took an early retirement. He then opened Satellite Dish and T.V. store in Ottawa.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Velma.

Gene is survived by his four brothers, Dude (Diane) Hirt, Terry Hirt, Charlie (Kay) Hirt and Mike (Diane) Hirt; by his sister, Lori (Rod) Sturdy; and by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Gene will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 7, at the St. Patrick Emerald Cemetery, south of Williamsburg, KS.
