Wagar Grant Carey III "Carey", of Osage City, KS (St. Helens, OR) was unexpectedly taken from us on June 24, 2021, at the age of 76 where he was surrounded by his family. He was born on April 15, 1945 in Portland, OR the son of Wagar Grant Carey II and Agnus (Klingsporn). Carey grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated in 1963 from Benson Poly Tech High School in Portland, OR. After high school, Carey served in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged. He attended Portland Community College earning his Associates Degree.

Carey spent most of his life working for Union 76/Conoco-Phillips Oil Company as a millwright maintenance engineer in Portland, OR for over forty years, retiring in 2017.

Carey was living his best life in retirement. He moved to Kansas from Oregon after his Grandchildren moved there to be closer to them. He was an avid bargain shopper, tool collector and had a passion for repairing clocks.

Carey never met a stranger. He loved to help people and did so every chance he could. From buying used bikes to use as parts for the neighborhood kids, dresses for recitals, musical instruments needed for school functions. He also bought many musical instruments that he donated to USD 420. If you shared with him what you wanted or needed, he more often than not, would find it for you, and would deliver it to you in person. He was a selfless man who lived humbly and was his happiest helping others.

That same passion was shown with his family. He was the one you called when you needed help, guidance, advise or just someone to talk to. He lifted our burdens and instilled in us the value of family. He was a pillar of strength, compassion, forgiveness and acceptance. He quite simply, was a beautiful Man, Father, and Grandfather and to say he will be missed is a gross understatement to our mourning.

Carey is survived by his step-daughter, Kathy Boss of Osage City, KS; his grandchildren, Monika Rowsey of Osage City, KS, Misty Lee of Everett, WA, Amber Wiscombe of Overbrook, KS and Lindsay Lehrbach of Osage City, KS; thirteen Great-Grandchildren; five Great-Great Grandchildren (with a sixth on the way). He adored each and everyone of them.

A Celebration of Life memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Osage City Community Building from 3-7 p.m. with family remembrances being shared at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army and sent in care to Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
