Melvern--Vona Rice, 85, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly, Kansas. She was born on November 13, 1930 in Ottawa, Kansas, the only child of Claude and Ida Randel Rea.
Vona grew up in Williamsburg and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1947. She had lived in Melvern for many years and had been in Waverly for the last 5 years.
Vona became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976 and worked at Hilltop Nursing Home in Lyndon for many years. She was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church and the Entre Nous Club in Melvern.
On January 31, 1948, Vona was married to Dean Rice in Lyndon.
Vona was preceded in death by her husband, Dean on January 12, 2011; by an infant son, Johnnie Dean Rice and by her parents, Claude and Ida.
Vona is survived her four daughters, Linda (John) Fellers of Melvern, Jeannie (Brad) Brownlee of Wichita, Lori (Larry) Privat of Melvern and Janis Fenwick of Topeka; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren with a great-grandson on the way.
Private Family Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melvern Community Center, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451
