Topeka--Vernon L. Weimer, 84, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.  He was born on July 6, 1933 in Olivet, Kansas, the son of Louis and Dorothy Taylor Weimer.
Vernon spent his life in the Olivet, Melvern and Carbondale communities.
Vernon graduated from Olivet High School.  He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War at the rank of Sergeant.  He was a Heavy Equipment Operator during the building of Pomona and Council Grove Lakes.  He worked at the Santa Fe Railway as a Wheel Crane Operator, retiring in 1994 after 31 years of service.  Vernon was a member of the American Legion Post #317 in Melvern.  He enjoyed boating, camping and traveling.
On June 9, 1957, Vernon was married to Jane Criss in Melvern.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Jane on June 6, 2003; his son, Randy Weimer in 1977; his parents, Louis and Dorothy; his two brothers, Kenneth and Ernest; his two sisters, Barbara Hebb and Kathy Rudolph.
Vernon is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Gary) French of Melvern and Lesa (Wayne) Ribordy of Topeka; his brother, Fred Weimer of Emporia; his three sisters, Edna Gardner of Topeka, Susie Burris and Regina Graham, both of Emporia; and a very special friend, Doris Vaughn of Topeka; two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00pm on Sunday, November 19 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Alpine Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Melvern Community Center, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
