Carbondale - Vernon Tilman Coffee, 82, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, Kansas. He was born on August 9, 1940, the son of Ernest Vernon and Eunice (Crank) Coffee, in Emmett, Arkansas.
Vernon moved to Washington DC the year after he graduated from high school to work for the FBI. While living in Washington DC, he met and married Sandra Sue Haas on June 11, 1961 in Carbondale, Kansas. He attended Barber College for 2 years and became a Master Barber. He and Sandra moved to Topeka, Kansas in 1964, where he worked as a carpenter for the next 40 years. He attended the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship and was a 50+year member of the Mason's.
Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Todd; a granddaughter, Samantha; his brother, Milton; and by his parents, Ernest and Eunice.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Sandra of 61 years; his son, Patrick Coffee and wife Sandy and their children, Zach and Danae in Dallas, Texas; his son, Scott Coffee and wife Susan and their children, Daric and Tara of DeSoto, Kansas; and his brother, Gary Coffee and his wife Peggy of Henderson, Texas.
Funeral services for Vernon will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 4, at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Carbondale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon KS 66451.
