Vera Knisley, 104, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly, Kansas. She was born on January 15, 1912 on the family farm near New London, Iowa the daughter of Frederick and Bettie Toft Miller.
Vera grew up around New London, where she graduated from New London High School in 1929. She moved to California for 4 years until she returned to the Burlington, Iowa area in 1940. She had lived in and around the Topeka community from 1957 to 2008 when she moved near Melvern.
Vera had been a Homemaker and a Dietary Technician at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was a member of the New London LT Club, the Rebekah Lodge of the Oddfellows, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in New London, Topeka and currently, Melvern.
Vera was married to Mark Allen in 1936 in New London, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1953. She married Dallas Knisley in 1957, they later divorced.
Vera was also preceded in death by her son, David Allen on 2006.
Vera is survived by her son Gary (Roberta) Allen of Melvern; a granddaughter, Julie (Tim) McLaughlin of Lyndon, two step grandchildren, Bill (Sony) Lovell Edmond, Oklahoma and Sean Lovell of Burlington; one great-grandchild, Trey Todd of Lyndon and five step great-grandchildren, Zac Zaloudek Nate Zaloudek, Nate McLaughlin, Brayden Lovell and Bryce Lovell; and several family members in the Mt. Pleasant, Iowa area.
Funeral services for Vera will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 14 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. A visitation from 10:00 to 11:00am will be at the Elliott Chapel in New London, Iowa on Thursday, December 15 with graveside services following at the Trinity Cemetery near New London.
