Obituary

Lyndon--Steven Brian Mounkes, 68, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on February 14, 1953 in San Diego, California, the son of Eldon and Donnalee (Gilman) Mounkes.
Steve grew up near Olivet and attended the Olivet schools for his first seven years. He had lived most of his life in or near Lyndon and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971.
Steve had worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #101 and Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Steve was married to Karen Tibbits, they later divorced. He was married to Annette Michael, to this union two children were born, Alec and Mara. T hey later divorced.
Steve was preceded in death by his son, Alec "Bubba" Mounkes on October 27, 2011; and his dad, Eldon Mounkes on January 16, 2021.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Mara Mounkes (Jay Hill) of Lyndon; his mother, Donnalee Mounkes of Lyndon; and his two sisters, Annetta (Danny) Hurt of Lyndon and Tammi (David) Thornburgh of Osage City.
Funeral services for Steve will be at 11:00am on Thursday, May 6 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will follow in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, May 5 at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions for Steve may be made to Ronald McDonald House, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
