Melvern - Sandra Sue White, 97, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia, Kansas. She was born on May 9, 1929, in Waverly, Kansas, the daughter of Pearl (P.F.) and Trullis (Ormsby) Chamberlin.
Sandy grew up in Waverly and graduated from Waverly High School in 1947. She relished in being the youngest cheerleader for Waverly Senior High.
On May 25, 1947, Sandy was united in marriage to Marvin "Jack" White in Waverly, Kansas. The couple moved to rural Melvern and resided in the area until Jack's passing. To this union three sons were born, Jack, Jim and Gary.
Sandy worked as a farm wife and homemaker. She was also a bus driver for the Melvern Schools for over 25 years, where she thoroughly enjoyed getting to know so many young members of the community, and driving them to their many endeavors. She was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Friday Afternoon Club. She was also an avid fan of the University of Kansas Men's Basketball team, as well as the Kansas City Royals Baseball Team. Her favorite pastime was watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren compete in various sporting activities.
Sandy was preceded in death by her husband "Jack" on September 2, 2013; by her parents, Pearl and Trullis; and by her two sisters, Hortense Blake and Delores Freeman.
Sandy is survived by her three sons, Jack White of Melvern, Jim White of Waverly and Gary White of Melvern; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Sandy will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 17 at the Melvern United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Melvern Cemetery. The family will also gather after the graveside services at the Melvern Community Center for additional reflection. Memorial contributions in memory of Sandy may be made to the Melvern Community Center, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
