Osage City - Russell Dean Cowan, 80, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on September 6, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas, the son of Royce and Nadine (Lee) Cowan.

Russell attended school in Arizona and graduated high school in Buffalo, Missouri.

Russell enlisted in the U.S. Army as an Engineer and served from 1964 to 1966. He worked in construction as a mechanic and operator for Clarkson Construction and Hamm Construction until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the Robert Heizer American Legion Post #198 of Osage City and the Operating Engineer Local #101. Russell enjoyed spending quality time with family, traveling and fishing, meeting people and helping out when needed.

On March 11, 1965, Russell was united in marriage to Sharon A. Manning in Osage City. To this union four children were born, Russ, Jr., Joan, Dee and Michelle.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Nadine; and his three brothers, Doyle, Houston and Dale.

Russell is survived by his wife, Sharon of 58 years; his son, Russell Cowan, Jr.; his three daughters, Joan Britschge, Dee and Michelle; his sister, Myrtle Joyce of Arkansas; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Russell will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, November 4 at the American Legion Post in Osage City. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Lyndon Cemetery.
