Osage City, KS--Ruby Ione Monroe, 96, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born on November 19, 1919 on the family farm near Melvern, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Hazel Goldsmith Beck.
Ione had lived in Plainville for many years and then in Hays before moving to Osage City in 1997.
Ione had been a Homemaker all of her life and had been a former member of the Plainville United Methodist Church.
Ione was married to Myrlin Monroe on December 21, 1941 in Melvern, Kansas.
Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Myrlin on July 15, 1996; her son, Theron on March 14, 2012; her daughter, Deanna Hickey on March 29, 2012; her daughter-in-law, Carol Monroe; her three brothers, Oscar Beck, Elmer Beck and Freeman Beck; her two sisters, Velma and Wiona; a granddaughter, Carla Monroe; and a great-grandson, Quinton.
Ione is survived by her son, Darrell (Eldena) Monroe of Berryton; her son-in-law, Gary Hickey of Osage City; her brother, Russell Beck of Emporia; her two sisters, Anita Faulkner of Osage City and Irene Sattler of Newton; her three grandchildren, Darrin (Kelly) Monroe of Lawrence, David (Jennifer) Monroe of Berryton and Myra Monroe of Plainville; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ione will be at 11:00am on Saturday, February 20 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Pomona. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
