Roy Albert Young, age 89, of Overbrook, KS, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday 16 ^th of February of 2021. He was born November 10 ^th 1931 in Greenwood County, the son of Bert Tuff Young and Bertha Bell (McDowell) Young. He was raised in Gridley, KS and graduated from Gridley High School with the class of 1950 where Roy played Football and Baseball.

Roy joined the army in 1952, were he played baseball and served during the Korean War. He was stationed in the Philippines until 1954 and attained the rank of corporal.

On Nov 14, 1954 he married Marjorie Rosela Laws. To this union were born Brenda JoRene, Roy David and Virginia (Gigi) Lea.

He married Jackee Spencer April 29, 1972 who had 3 children Lori Marie, Shane Eric and Martin (Marty) Ray and in September of 1972 Roy and Jackee adopted each other's children. They shared almost 49 years of marriage.

Roy was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law Ray and Willa Spencer, wife Marjorie, brother Louis, daughter Gigi, son Marty, son-in-law Steve Dennis and daughter-in-law Rene Young.

He is survived by his wife Jackee; children Brenda Dennis, Independence Mo, David Young (Helen), Chapel Hill NC, Lori Young, Osage City KS, Shane Young (Debby),Overbrook KS, sister Marie Tennant, Pond Creek, OK and brother-in-law Claron Cordle Ottawa, KS. Grandchildren ShawnnaLea Zemanek, Ryan Young, Angela Lusby, Stephanie Hefley, Kimberly Wilcox, Tiona O'Reilly, Brooke Sheets, Shianna Roper and Cole Young. Roy is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and many other relatives.

Roy was employed by McClaskey as an oil field driller where he started working with his father during high school. He continued working in the oil fields after returning from the war. Moving to Kansas City in 1957 he went to work for Kansas City Power and Light and attended night classes for Diesel school. His position at KCP&L was lead lineman splicer and he proudly retired after 37 years. He enjoyed the satisfaction of giving the community power again.  After retirement he ran the Lincoln and Melvern township road graders. Roy had a servant's heart and loved helping people.

He was a dedicated Christian, most recently a member of Topeka Baptist Church and enjoyed taking people to lunch after services. Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and attended ball games and activities for his kids, grandkids and great grandkids.  Roy was active member in the American Legion Post 317 where he committed his time carrying the flag for Memorial Day ceremony and parades, placing flowers on the graves of those who served or fallen, and helping with the bingo at the Melvern fair. Roy was well known at the Veterans Hospital of Topeka, visiting on Wednesday's while Jackee attended bible study.  He would have breakfast and visit the staff and patients, where he made many of new friends.

Roy was a dedicated father and raised his three children by himself for 9 years until he married Jackee and committed himself to raising 6 kids. Roy and Jackee then raised two grandchildren Angela Lusby and Tiona O'Reilly. Roy was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and Christian. He will be deeply missed and remain in the heart and thoughts of his family and many friends forever...

Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon, KS. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Williamsburg, KS. Roy will lie in state from 4-6:00 P.M. on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Feltner Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M.
