Obituary

Crystal River, Florida - Ronald L. "Skip" Swisher, 79, passed away on August 15, 2024, at Tampa General, in Crystal River, Florida. He was born on November 26, 1944, in Reading, Pennsylvania, the son of Arbie "Vern" and Ruth "Kelly" (Carver) Swisher.

The family moved to Overbrook and Skip attended Overbrook Rural High School, graduating in 1962. He then attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1967. Skip then served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1972. He then continued serving in the Army Reserves and Army National Guard for over 15 years, earning the rank of Major. Professionally, Skip was a real estate appraiser and worked as the Bureau Chief for the Kansas Department of Revenue for 24 years, retiring in 2001, and then moved to Texas. There, he served as a Veteran Benefits Coordinator for the Texas Veterans Commission.

Skip was united in marriage to Donna Kukuk, on August 27, 1966, in Burlingame. To this union, three children were born, Craig, Stacey and Lora.

After Skip's active-duty military service, the family moved back to Overbrook where they raised their family. Skip and Donna retired and moved to Florida in 2021. Skip was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Kansas State football fan. He enjoyed his time spent on the farm, by the ocean, and being with his grandchildren.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Arbie "Vern" and Ruth "Kelly".

Skip is survived by his wife, Donna, of Crystal River, Florida; his three children, Craig (Becky) Swisher of Kansas City, Missouri, Stacey (Scott) Askew of Wichita and Lora (Jeff) Schmitt of Delray, Florida; his seven grandchildren, Ke;cey Ballou, Maeson (Riley) Tendler, Cole Askew, Alexandra Schmitt, Hunter Swisher, Wyatt Swisher and Katy Swisher; his brother, Mark Swisher; other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Skip will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, October 12, at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time at the church. Inurnment with military honors will be at the ValleyBrook Cemetery, south of Overbrook. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Overbrook American Legion. Student Scholarship Fund, sent in care of Overbrook American Legion, P.O. Box 213, Overbrook, KS 66524. Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon is assisting the family with services.
