Simi Valley, CA--Robert Leroy Hughes, 90, passed away on January 10, 2016 in Simi Valley. He was born on February 27, 1925, the son of Leroy Griffin Hughes and Una Lamond Hughes.

As a teenager, Robert witnessed the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor where his father was stationed in the Navy. He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

Robert's working career was spent largely with Lockheed aircraft in the aerospace industry. He applied his Art degree from the University of Kansas doing technical illustration and parlayed that skill into becoming a spare parts specialist traveling the globe. He spent five years with his family working in Germany; two years in Saudi Arabia and seven months in Singapore.

Robert lived in Simi Valley, CA for 30 years and enjoyed bowling and painting in his retirement. The last five years of his life were spent living with his family in Traverse City, MI. He passed away quietly in Simi Valley, where he was wintering with family.

Robert was preceded in death by his son, Rodney "Rocky" Hughes of Simi Valley, CA and by his daughter Cynthia "Cindy" Yotter of Peabody, KS; and by his two brothers, David Hughes and Charles Hughes.

Robert is survived by his daughter, LuAnn Hughes Condon of Traverse City, MI; his sister, Lois Rosevelt of Topeka, KS; his two granddaughters, Jennifer Stone of Lynden, WA and Maribeth Condon of Traverse City, MI; his two nieces, Kathy Belanger of Topeka, KS and Tracy Maxwell of Belton, MO; and his nephew Mike Ellis of Milwaukee, WI.

Robert was cremated and memorial services will be at a later date at the Lyndon Cemetery in Lyndon, KS.
