Topeka--Rev. Robert (Bob) Matthew Grimmett passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at his home after a short illness. He was born on August 18, 1954 in Emporia, KS, the oldest of four sons born to Bill and Betty (Jackson) Grimmett. After graduating from Lebo High School in 1972, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and his Doctorate of Theology from Southern Indiana Baptist College.

Bob and Susan Burnett, daughter of Grover and Juliette (Green) Burnett, were high school sweethearts who married on June 16, 1973 in Melvern, KS. They began their family in 1976 by welcoming their son Stephen. In 1977 their second son Michael was born, and the family was completed with the addition of John in 1981.

Following in the Grimmett family tradition, he worked as a brick mason building their first home in Lebo, KS. in 1976. He served as a youth pastor at West Side Baptist Church in Emporia, KS as well as at Blue Ridge Baptist Temple in Kansas City. Following the Lord's call, he became the Pastor at Central Baptist Church in Anthony, KS and later at Bethel Community Church in Topeka, KS. His fondness for working with young people led him into the field of education, where he became a junior high school social studies teacher at Robinson Middle School in Robinson, KS and later at Silver Lake Junior High School in Silver Lake, KS. Upon his death, he was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Topeka, KS.

During their 42 years of marriage, Bob and Susan enjoyed traveling throughout the country; eventually completing their quest to see all 50 states. Bob was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included the Green Bay Packers, Kansas Jayhawks and the 2015 World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. His love of sports steered him into becoming a coach of several youth sports teams. His other interests included music, storytelling, studying the Bible, history, reading, playing guitar, singing and tinkering in his shop.

Bob is survived by his wife Susan; his three sons, Stephen of Topeka, KS, Michael of Lawrence, KS and John of Portland, OR; his parents, Bill and Betty of Webb City, Mo; three brothers, Rex (Cynthia) of Paris, TN, Scott (Lori) of Reading, KS and Stephen of Springfield, MO; and brother-in-law Stephen (Cynthia) Burnett of Topeka, KS.

Funeral services for Bob will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, December 8 at the Bethel Community Church, 6944 NW Landon Road, Topeka, KS. Burial will be in the Melvern Cemetery at 2:00pm on Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Monday, December 7 at the Lyndon Baptist Church, 129 W. 15th St., Lyndon, KS.
