Quenemo--Phyllis Ann Sluder, 87, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Ottawa Retirement Village. She was born on July 23, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of John and Grace Scherer Rusk.
Phyllis grew up in Kansas City and had lived in Tonganoxie before moving to rural Quenemo in 1970.
Phyllis graduated from the University of Missouri and worked for AT&T as an Assistant Engineer. She then earned a teaching degree from Emporia State University and taught elementary school for 15 years at USD #456. She attended the Quenemo United Methodist Church where she was active in UMW, was a member of the Melvern American Legion Auxiliary and had worked on the Agency Township Election Board for many years.
On May 16, 1954, Phyllis was married to Carl Sluder in Lees Summit, Missouri.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Chris Sluder on March 24, 2015; by her parents, John and Grace; her brother, Keith Rusk and her sister, Carol Brown.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carl of the home; her two sons, John Sluder of Kingston, Oklahoma and Paul Sluder of Quenemo; her six grandchildren, Adam, Laura, Matthew, Kelly, Alexandra and Leon; and her three great-grandchildren, Adam, Kiera and Braden.
Memorial services for Phyllis will be at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 20 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends for one half hour before services at the chapel.
