Melvern--Philip Spencer, 78, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.  He was born on July 23, 1938 in Stull, Kansas the son of Russell and Maud Herman Spencer.
Philip grew up in Stull and graduated from Lawrence High School.  He moved to the rural Melvern area in 1972 where he has lived since.
Philip had been a Farmer and Stockman most of his life and also worked as a truck driver for the farm as well.  He served in the United States Army Reserve as a Staff Sergeant and was a member of the Section Church of Christ in Osage City.
On January 14, 1961 Philip was married to Gwen Duvall in Lawrence, Kansas.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Georgia Wingfield and Bonnie Hinck.
Philip is survived by his wife Gwen of the home; his two sons, Patrick (Jeannie) Spencer of Patterson, California and Rusty (Bobbie) Spencer of Melvern; his daughter, Sherry (Steve) Higbie of Rantoul; his brother, James (Fonda) Spencer of Quenemo; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Philip will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 5 at the East View Cemetery at Big Springs.  The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Friday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Osage County Fire District #3, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
