Vernon, Texas - Peggy Lou Weiss, 91, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away on February 8, 2025. Peggy was born March 8,1933, in Quenemo, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Lula (Smith) Figgins.

Peggy was united in marriage with Harold "Sonny" Weiss, November 22, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2001.

Survivors include her children, Dennis Weiss of Alvarado, TX, and Michael Weiss and wife, Cheryl of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Brandon Weiss and wife, Tara, Amber Weiss, Cody Weiss and wife, Vickie, and Christina Weiss; and four great grandchildren, Michael, Samantha, Blake and Bristol Weiss.

She was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Lula Figgins; and brothers, Rankin, Forrest, Marlin, Byron and Lee Figgins; and sisters, Ruby Broyles and Vada Bachelor.

Never afraid of hard work, Sonny and Peggy worked on their farm tending their livestock, fields and growing an enormous garden, often sharing the bounty with friends and family. Peggy was known for canning hundreds of jars of vegetables each year and was particularly proud of Sonny and her annual tomato crop. Her grandkids remember summer and harvest time being a "family affair" when everyone pitched in to shuck corn, snap green beans and pick tomatoes and zucchini. Peggy also worked as a home health aide in Lyndon for many years until her retirement.

When she lost her home to a fire in 2001, Peggy moved to Texas to be near family, allowing her to attend and become a member of Willow Park Baptist Church, together with Mike and Cheryl. They also shared many weekly shopping trips and meals together at her favorite local restaurants.

In 2023 Peggy relocated to Eagle Flats Village Assisted Living in Vernon, Texas where her granddaughter-in-law, Tara, is the director and helped keep a close eye on her. With family nearby, Peggy thrived in her new environment, making lots of new friends, participating in crafts and activities like painting and bingo, and enjoying shopping trips to the local Wal-Mart in the Eagle Flats limo.

Peggy will be remembered as a "fun grandmother" who loved hosting the grandchildren during their summer breaks in the late 80's and early 90's. Always busy, on the go and never short of words, Peggy was certain to know all the news in the neighborhood. She always enjoyed catching up with her cherished lifelong friendships on long phone calls, unless it was Saturday at 9 p.m. which was reserved strictly for her "Polka program".

Services for Peggy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 21 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon, KS. The family welcomes fellowship and lunch following the service at Smoked Creations BBQ in Ottawa, KS.
