Lyndon--Paul "Bud" Smoot, 71, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS. He was born on March 17, 1943 in LaHarpe, KS., the son of Ira and Mary Poe Smoot.
Bud was raised and attended school in LaHarpe. He later moved to Iola and then made his home in Lyndon in 1974.
He worked as a custodian for Lyndon USD #421, retiring in 1997. He owned and operated Bud's Bunny Farm for several years. He had also coached Boys Summer League Baseball in Iola and Lyndon for many years.
Bud married Ila Anderson on November 4, 1983 in Lyndon. They divorced in 2011.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mary; by five brothers, Richard, Ira (Russell), Melvin (Albert), Glen and Carl; a sister, Dorothy; and a step brother, Clyde.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Mary (Scott) Jordan of Lyndon; his son, Doug Smoot of Yates Center; his brother, Dean Smoot of Vassar; his two sisters, Margaret Simpkins of Pocatello, ID and Stella Higinbotham of Iola; his step mother, Minnie Smoot of Salina; three half sisters, Shirley Leroy of Chanute, Marcella Smoot and Aleta Flaherty, both of Salina; five grandchildren; four step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Bud will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 21 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Vassar Cemetery. To honor Bud's memory, the family asks that all family and friends wear something bearing either the K.U. or KC Royals logo to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Brookside Retirement Community.
