Vassar - Michael Robert Abel, 72, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on February 1, 1954, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of John and Ruth (Humphrey) Abel.

Mike had lived the majority of his life in Kansas and Osage County.

Mike graduated from Lyndon High School in 1972 and then began working as a Heavy Equipment Operator in construction. He worked on Clinton Dam, the race tracks in Topeka and Kansas City and the Power and Light District in Kansas City.

Mike was united in marriage to Nancy Tevis in August of 1982. To this union, a son was born, John.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy in June of 2007; and by his father, John.

Mike is survived by his son, John Abel of Vassar; by his mother, Ruth Abel of Vassar; by his sister, Diann (Charlie) Drake of Vassar; by his brother, Marty (Pam) Abel of Independence, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
