Melvern--N. Maxine Fanning, 92, passed away Thursday February 5, 2015 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born March 4, 1922 the daughter of Edward Orton and Emma Armetta (Rutledge) Irey. She attended Fairview #45 country school near Halls Summit, through 8th grade, then attended Waverly High School, graduating in 1940.
On June 9, 1940 Maxine was united in marriage to Junior Fanning in Waverly. The couple farmed and raised cattle and hogs. In 1945 they purchased a farm east of Melvern, Maxine stayed on the farm until September of 2001 when she moved into Melvern. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW in Melvern, she was very active in EHU and many community events. Maxine and Junior were members of the Waverly Square Dance Club and really enjoyed dancing and traveling to the other clubs, especially with sister and husband.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Junior on January 17, 1987; by her parents; her brother, Roy Irey; her sister, Wilma James, and son-in-law Larry Allen.
Maxine is survived by her four daughters, Mev Allen of Staples, TX., Brenda (Ron) Clark of Clinton, Mo., Venita (Dennis) Norton of Williamsburg, KS. and Cheryl (Gene) Hogan of Lane, KS.; two sisters-in-law, Coleen Rice and JoAnn (Howard) Arb, all of Melvern; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Maxine will be at the Melvern United Methodist Church on Thursday February 12 at 11:00am. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Melvern Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be made to the Melvern United Methodist Church or the Melvern Community Center.
