Obituary

Lyndon--Mary Singular, 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born on September 8, 1920, in Americus, Kansas, the only daughter of Bruce and Mildred Beck Carlson.
Mary grew up in Americus with four brothers. She lived in Burlington for a short time before moving to Lyndon in 1954, where she lived ever since.
Mary attended Emporia Teacher's College in Elementary Education. She belonged to the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority while at Emporia. She taught at Holton for a time. Along with her husband, Bill, she owned and operated Lyndon Lumber Company from 1955 to 1975. Mary was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church and the Friends of the Library. After retirement, they enjoyed their winters in Arizona, golfing and playing Bridge with her friends. Mary's passion was her love of books, reading, and sharing stories.
On March 21, 1944, Mary was married to William Singular in Americus. Bill preceded her in death on September 3, 2006. Also preceding her were her parents and brothers, Bill, Bruce, Bob and Henry Carlson.
Mary is survived by her son, Steve Singular and wife Joyce of Denver, Colorado; by her daughter, Nancy Singular of Marina del Rey, California; and by her grandson, Eric Singular of Denver, Colorado.
A Celebration of Life for Mary will be at 5:00pm on Wednesday, August 12, at the Lyndon United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 on Tuesday at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Lyndon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyndon United Methodist Church or the Lyndon Carneige Library, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, Ks. 66451.
