Lyndon – Louise Schmitendorf, 92, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas. She was born on November 14, 1929, on the family farm south of Lyndon near Olivet, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Grace (Lumsden) White.

Louise grew up near Olivet but had spent most of her life in the Lyndon community. She had lived in Leavenworth for the last several years.

Louise graduated from Lyndon High School in 1947. She had worked for Cappers in Topeka and then had worked for Lyndon Schools in the cafeteria. While raising her family she also did ironing work. Louise was indeed the best Grandma, and she always made the best cookies.

On March 20, 1948, Louise was united in marriage to George Schmitendorf in Topeka, Kansas. To this union five children were born, Francis, Yvonne, Jim, David and Larry.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, George on January 1, 2009; by her son, David Schmitendorf on May 27, 2022; by a niece raised as a daughter, Lucille Speed; by her parents, Ernest and Grace; her brother, Don White; and her sister, Sarah White.

Louise is survived by her four children, Francis (Patty) Schmitendorf of Leavenworth, Yvonne (Jim) Beets of Olathe, Jim (Teresa) Schmitendorf of Lyndon and Larry (Anita) Schmitendorf of Basehor; her daughter-in-law, Paula Schmitendorf of Emporia; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Louise will be at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, June 7 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday at the chapel.
