TOPEKA - Laura Elaine (Smith) Badger, 76, formerly of Scranton, departed this life on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Healthcare Resort in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on March 11, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Eleanor (Phelon) Smith.

Elaine, as she was known to all, had worked as a Registered Nurse in hospitals across Kansas. She was a member of the Stormont-Vail Retired Nurses Association, the Sunflower Lions Club, she was a volunteer and then on the Board of Directors of the Schuyler Museum in Burlingame and the Stull United Methodist Church.

On June 5, 1965 Elaine was united in marriage to Tom Badger in Scranton, Kansas.

Elaine was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tracy Badger; and her parents, Walter and Eleanor.

Elaine is survived by her husband Tom of 55 years; her son, Todd Badger of Stuart, Florida; her daughter, Tara Phillips of Wichita; her brother, Walter "Tyke" Smith III (Glenna Jones) of Scranton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine was cremated and a celebration of life will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Stull United Methodist Church, 1596 E. 250 Rd., Lecompton, KS 66050.
