Overbrook - Larry Dean Wendling, Sr., 79, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Brookside Health and Rehab in Overbrook, Kansas. He was born on May 5, 1945, in Parsons, Kansas, the son of Oscar and Mary (Bedore) Wendling.

Larry traveled with his family, living in many communities in Kansas before settling in Lyndon, where he graduated from Lyndon High School in 1963. He later moved to Topeka, where he lived for many years.

Larry spent his career working for Kansas Gas Service until his retirement in 2005.

Larry was united in marriage to Jean Gurss in 1962. They were later divorced. To this union, four children were born, Chanda, Larry, Jr., Teresa and Neal.

Larry taught his children and their friends to water ski, was an avid walker, and loved to do both yard work and snow removal for himself and neighbors. He enjoyed traveling and meeting people, but took special joy in following his grandkids' sporting events. He never missed a game.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary; and by his brother, Galen Wendling.

Larry is survived by his four children, Chanda (Dan) DiMarzio of Camino, California, Larry (Toni) Wendling, Jr., of Lyndon, Teresa Fitch of Lyndon and Neal (Tonya) Wendling of Lyndon; his brother, Terry (Kristi) Wendling of Georgetown, Texas; his sister-in-law, Mary Fran Wendling of Oak Harbor, Washington; his thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Larry will be at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 1 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30pm on Friday at the funeral home.
