Obituary

Melvern - Larry L. Salisbury, 86, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the Rock Creek Care Facility in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on May 2, 1939, in St. Mary's, Kansas, the son of Guy and Almeda (Cox) Salisbury.

Larry graduated from St. Mary's (KS) High School in 1957 and then attended Emporia State Teachers College. He received his teaching certificate in Industrial Arts and taught in Chase, Kansas, before moving to Overland Park, KS.  Larry taught Industrial Arts in Kansas City, KS, at Rosedale Junior/Senior High School then moved on to J.C. Harmon High School. In 1982, Larry became a District Administrator in the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools. He retired in 1999 and moved to Melvern in 2001.

Larry had worked as Park Ranger at Melvern Lake during the summers of 1974 to 1981. After returning to Melvern in retirement, he was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church where he served as Board Chairman for several years. He also was very involved in the Melvern PRIDE Committee and assisted with many community projects including the revitalization of the Community Center and Railroad Park.

On June 11, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to C. Kay Jennings in Melvern. To this union, two sons were born, Greg and Randy.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Kay on February 18, 2025; by his son, Greg Salisbury; his daughter-in-law, Mary "Lynn" Salisbury; his great grandson, Jack Doyle; and by his parents, Guy and Almeda.

Larry is survived by his son, Randy (Maureen) Salisbury of Overland Park; his daughter-in-law, Melinda Salisbury of Bennington, KS; his brother, David (Twyla) Salisbury of Dodge City; his four grandchildren, Brandon (Tamara) Salisbury of Conway Springs, Meghan (Corey) Redfern of Dawsonville, Georgia, Molly Salisbury of Overland Park, and Maggie (Tyler) Doyle of Overland Park; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Larry will be at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 9, at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until service time at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be made to the Melvern United Methodist Church, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS, 66451.
