Obituary

Lyndon - Larry Lee Masenthin, Sr., 86, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. Francis hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on December 26, 1938, in Emporia, Kansas, and was the adopted son of Albert and Carrie (Harford) Masenthin.

Larry grew up near the Vassar community, traveled extensively with the Air Force and then returned to the Lyndon area in 1978.  Larry graduated from Lyndon High School in 1957 and joined the United States Air Force in 1958. He served for 20 years, working in corrections and airplane security and retired as a Technical Sergeant. He had served two tours in Germany. After the Air Force, Larry worked over 2 years for Diversified, was a mechanic for Ford for over 15 years and also worked as a Wal-Mart mechanic, all in Ottawa. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

On June 10, 1958, Larry was married to Zelma Fields, they later divorced. He married Rita Brecheisen on August 20, 1978.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Carrie; by his son, Larry Lee Masenthin, Jr. on November 28, 2006; by his brother, John Masenthin; and by his sister, Delores Jane Brecheisen.

Larry is survived by his wife Rita of 46 years; by his four children, Larry (Connie) Masenthin of Neosho Rapids, Donna (Mike) Keener of San Antonio, Texas, Abie Masenthin (Daniel) of Lyndon and Echo (Jeff) Bell of Quenemo; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Larry will be at 10:00am on Saturday, February 8, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30pm on Thursday (due to basketball) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be made to Prairie Paws or the local animal shelter of your choice, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
