Topeka--Katherine Shanks, 93, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Lexington Park Nursing Home in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on December 23, 1924 in Mandan, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Flora Friedt Eckroth.
Katherine had lived in Lyndon for many years and had been at Lexington Park for the last year.
Katherine worked as a Nurse's Aide at Hilltop Nursing Home in Lyndon for many years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka.
On March 6, 1948, Katherine was married to James Shanks in Yakima, Washington.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, James, on May 29, 1980; her parents, John and Flora; two sons-in-law, Ed Cobb and Bob Pinnock; three brothers, Philip Eckroth, John Eckroth and Joseph Eckroth; and four sisters, Monica Paul, Francis Paul, Eva Brady and Beatrice Charvat.
Katherine is survived by her two sons, Jim (Glenda) Shanks of Grand Junction, Colorado and Ron (Karen) Shanks of Topeka; her four daughters, Debra Pinnock of Camdenton, Missouri, Cheryl Cobb of Topeka, Judy (Mark) Brecheisen of Wichita and Linda (Mike) Holston of Mayetta; her brother, Gary (Ginny) Eckroth of Maine; her three sisters, Hilda Henry of Oregon, Margaret Paul of North Dakota and Judy (Glenn) Thiel of North Dakota; fifteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Katherine will be at 10:00am on Saturday, November 24 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Topeka. Rosary will be at 9:30am. Inurnment will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
