Obituary

Carbondale--John L. Jack" Dunn, 90, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on July 3, 1925 in Burlingame, Kansas, the son of John and Mary Smith Dunn.

Jack grew up in Burlingame, graduating from Burlingame High School in 1943, and he had lived in Carbondale since 1949.

Jack served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Crewman with the 16th Armored Division in the European Theater during World War II. He worked as a mechanic and technician for amusement machines for many years. Jack was a member of the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, had served on the Zoning Board for Carbondale for many years, was a member of the American Legion Capital Post #1 and was a life member of the VFW #1650.

On December 21, 1946, Jack was married to Violet Punches in Topeka.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; by a brother, Bob Dunn; by his two sisters, Doris Smith and Jane Jankovsky; and by a granddaughter, Kelly Jo.

Jack is survived by his wife of 69 years, Violet; his son, Michael Dunn (Patricia) of Lenexa; his daughter, Vickie Newstrom (Cole) of Lawrence; his brother, Dale Dunn of Wichita; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jack will be held at 10:30am on Friday, May 13 at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Thursday at the church in Carbondale. Burial will be in the Carbondale Cemetery.
