Lyndon--Janet Lorraine Howard, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 in Comanche, Texas. She was born on July 11, 1937 in Holyoke, Colorado, the second of five daughters to Glen and Winnie Kepler Alberts.
Janet grew up and attended school in Holyoke, Colorado and worked at the Dairy King with her mother and sisters. She had lived at Glen Elder, Kansas until moving to Lyndon in 1967.
Janet was a Homemaker and mother until starting to work for Cook Construction Company in Glen Elder at the Waconda Lake. After moving to Lyndon, she then worked for both Cook Construction and Neosho Construction during the building of Melvern Lake. She worked several years for Ned Hiatt's RV Sales near Vassar. Janet was a founding member of the Lyndon United Methodist Preschool where she worked as an assistant teacher for 12 years. Many children in the community knew her as "Grandma Janet". For the last five years she has been a full time RV'er and camp host at lakes in Texas and Kansas. She was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church and the U.M.W.
On September 16, 1956, Janet married Robert Railsback in Holyoke. They divorced on January 29, 1979. On February 29, 1980, Janet married her best friend, Wayne Howard, in Burlington.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Winnie; a sister, Glenna Alberts; a grandson, Christopher Railsback; and three nephews.
Janet is survived by her husband Wayne, of 39 years; her daughter, Barbara (Gary) Schattak of Lyndon; her son, Burton Railsback of Reading; three sisters, Carolyn (Dan) Loughman of Wichita, Cheryl (Joe) Jacklovich of Wichita and Lynette Schneider of Lakewood, Colorado; four grandchildren, Keith (Andrea) Schattak of Lyndon, Kristy (Vince) Stark of Osage City, Matthew (Allison) Railsback; and Allison Railsback, all of Mankato; four great-grandchildren, Abby and Michael Stark, Isabella Toman and Luke Brossman; one great-great-granddaughter, Emarie; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Janet will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 30 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Lyndon United Methodist Preschool, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
