Obituary

Vassar--James "Jimmie" Roberts, 87, passed from this world on July 15, 2019 while visiting friends and family in Kansas City. Even though he was alone in his car, he was blanketed in the Love of his family, friends and loving memory of his wife Millie. His final home was in Topeka, Kansas, but lived most of his life in Kansas City, Kansas and then Vassar, Kansas after retirement.
Jimmie was born in Kansas City, Kansas on February 10, 1932, the son of Benjamin and Noreen Roberts. A lifelong resident of Kansas, Jimmie served as Captain of the Auxiliary Division of the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, maintained an active presence in his Masonic Lodge and provided for his family by serving 35 years as a mechanical engineer with Owens Corning Fiberglass. After retirement to Vassar, Jimmie became an avid golfer and enjoyed coordinating weekly tournaments with his many friends at the Lamont Hills Golf Resort.
Jimmie is survived by his sister, Marilyn Ruth Moore of Grandview, Missouri; three children, Jimmie Roberts of Cerritos, California, Dale Roberts of Cathedral City, California and Diana Kubie of Topeka, Kansas. There are eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren as well as lifelong friends and family who mourn Jimmie's passing. Jimmie was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mildred "Millie" Roberts; and three sisters, JoAnn Eads, Martha Wilson and Finny Marie Stegman. Jimmie's final resting place will be at Vassar Cemetery on South Croco Rd. in Vassar, Kansas, with a graveside service at 1:00pm on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
All who knew Jimmie will remember his good-natured humor, outgoing personality, and passion of all things Western, especially Country Music. Throughout his life, Jimmie entertained with his beloved cowboy songs, wearing cowboy boots and Stetson, playing his guitar as he sang from his heart. The world has lost another songbird, but his music will live within all of us forever, and as in all good cowboy tales, Jimmie died with his boots on.
