OVERBROOK

Obituary

Overbrook - Jacquelyn "Jackee" Kay (Spencer) Young was born on a snowy day in Williamsburg, Kansas, on December 11, 1942, the daughter of Ray and Willa (Noe) Spencer. She passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at her home in Overbrook, Kansas.

Jackee attended the Williamsburg schools and graduated in 1961. She married Roy Young on April 29, 1972.

Jackee was preceded in death by Roy on February 16, 2021; by her infant brother, Richard Spencer, in 1951; by her daughter, Virginia "Gigi" Young, in 1975; by her son, Marty Young, in 1987; by a daughter-in-law, Rene Young, in 1998; and a son-in-law, Steve Dennis, in 2016.

Jackee is survived by her sister, Pam Spencer, of Covington, LA; by a nephew, Brent (Barbara) Spencer of Highland Village, TX; by her four children, Brenda Dennis of Independence, MO; David (Helen) Young of Chapel Hill, NC; Lori Young of Lebo, KS; and Shane (Debby) Young of Jasper, AR.; by her 9 grandchildren, ShawnaLea, Ryan, Angie, Stephanie, Kimberly, Tiona , Brooke, Shianna, and Cole; and by 19 great-grandchildren.

Jackee worked a variety of jobs: waitress, nanny, church secretary, meat wrapper, and postmaster relief at Melvern and Quenemo US Post Offices. Her favorite "job", however, was Grandma.

In her early years, her great-grandmother Jennie Decker took her to church. At a revival service, she yielded to the Holy Spirit and decided to follow Christ. One of her friends later invited her to the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). Jackee had attended and led other Bible studies, but BSF was different and meant even more to her, as she continued to faithfully attend for 24 years. She especially loved sharing her faith with her grandchildren, whether bringing her grandsons (Cameron, Collin, and Cole) to participate in the children's BSF program or taking Kayleigh and Clarissa to church during their long summer visits.

But Jackee's deepest desire was that her family would one day join her in heaven.

Private family inurnment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, KS, at a later date.
