Melvern--Isabel Phelon, 90, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly, Kansas. She was born on October 29, 1925 in Iola, Kansas the daughter of Earl and Adelia Andrews Lizer.
Isabel grew up in the Harris and Garnett area and had lived on the farm west of Melvern from 1954 to 2013. She had been in the assisted living in Osage City and then in Waverly.
Isabel graduated high school and began teaching at Humboldt, Iola and Garnett. She later received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia and was a teacher and substitute teacher in the Melvern and Quenemo schools. She was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, E.H.U., the Sunflower Steppers Square Dance group, was a member and then a leader for 4-H and had been a past president for the Osage County Farm Bureau.
On August 15, 1954 Isabel was married to Ed Phelon in Harris, KS.
Isabel was preceded in death by her husband Ed on February 23, 2006; by a daughter, Kay Haskins on June 3, 2000 and by her parents.
Isabel is survived by her son, Raylen (Karen) Phelon of Melvern; her two daughters, Janett Phelon of Lawrence and Linda (Greg) Carson of Osage City; her son-in-law, David (Barb) Haskins of Osage City; her brother, Earl (Ann) Lizer of Garnett; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren with twins on the way.
Funeral services for Isabel will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 7 at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery north of Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00pm on Thursday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon.
