Spring Hill - Helen Christina (Harris) Black, 89, departed this earth on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Spring Hill Care and Rehab in Spring Hill, Kansas. She was born on February 26, 1937, at Cape Fair, Missouri, the only child of Cash Eli and Juanita (Gentry) Harris.

While growing up, Helen lived in Missouri, Idaho and Kansas. She spent a lot of time with her Uncle Ross Harris and family, including her cousin Verla, whom Helen felt was the closest she had to a sister.

On March 3, 1956, Helen was united in marriage to Glen Black in Cassville, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City and in Oregon before moving to Osage City, Kansas in 1965. After Glen's death in 1998, she moved to Topeka, Kansas. In 2012 Helen moved to Spring Hill, Kansas.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Glenda (David) Long of Paola, KS; by her son, Stanley (Pam) Black of Abilene, KS; by her daughter-in-law, Dianna Black of Shawnee, OK; by her six grandchildren, Julie (Aaron) Cain, Bradley Long, Ashley (Nick) Sanderson, Lydia (Drew) Bowsher, Garrett (Hailey) Black and Kirk (Brennyn) Black; by her eleven great-grandchildren, Lily, Wyatt, Jenna, Hadlie, Jack, Wesley, Bennett, Oliver, Baylor, Piper and Emery; other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Cash and Juanita Harris; her husband, Glen Black; and her son, Bryon Black.

Helen was a member of the Western Hills Baptist Church in Topeka and the Kansas Marais Des Cygnes chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Helen had a green thumb and always enjoyed plants and flowers. She was a prolific reader and visited all 50 of the United States. She also visited Australia, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and traveled through the Panama Canal.

Funeral services for Helen will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, April 30, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until service time. Burial will be in the Osage City Cemetery.
