Obituary

Overbrook - Gerald "Jerry" Warren Allen passed away on December 10, 2025, at Ruble Ranch in Overbrook, Kansas. He was born on August 10, 1940, to Kenneth and Muriel (Brenn) Allen in Stafford, Kansas.

A few years later, their family would welcome his sister Pat. Jerry grew up a typical farm kid in central Kansas, playing and working at the farm, picking on his sister, and learning everything. He grew up with a mom who encouraged reading and learning and he maintained this love of reading and learning for his whole life. After he graduated from Stafford High School in 1958, he became a standout in the science department at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. He graduated with a Master's of Science During his time in college.

On May 27, 1962, Jerry was united in marriage to Joanne Street in Stafford, Kansas. To this union three children were born, Lars in 1963, Michael in 1967 and Katrina in 1970.

After college, Jerry would move on to extra training in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and would eventually land a job with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in 1963, where he worked his whole career to develop radiation safety. He was Chief of the X-Ray and RAM Control sections and was known for many advances through CRCPD, serving on the board of directors and member-at-large in developing the regulations for the use of radioactive materials. Jerry would retire in 1996, and his adventuring went into full speed with Joanne always by his side. They were inseparable through so many journeys around our country.

Being active in his community was the foundation of who Jerry was. From being a scout leader for many years. Serving the local Methodist church in many capacities. A member of the local Rotary club and serving in many positions with Rotary.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Lars; by his parents, Kenneth and Muriel; and by his three brothers-in-law, Jack Houston, Bill Street and John Street.
