Scranton--Gene "Toad" Tevis, 61, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on October 10, 1953 in El Paso, Texas, the son of Lee and Ira Taylor Tevis.
Gene had lived in Burlingame before moving to Scranton in 1990.
Gene graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971 and served in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1976. He had worked as a carpenter for many years and had worked for Fieldstone Fruit Farm for the last 15 years. He attended the Carbondale Christian Church and was a member of the Boozefighters MC.
Gene was married to Vicki Hitt, they later divorced. He was married to Kristine Adams, they later divorced. He lived with Phyllis Haid, and considered her kids his own.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ira and by a sister, Nancy Abel.
Gene is survived by his three sons, Shaun (Sara) Tevis of Admire, Bradley (Angela) Tevis of Longmont, Colorado and Chris (Courtney) Hartzell of Auburn; his three daughters, Carey (Kelly) Jordan of Topeka, Melissa Tevis of Osage City and Sonya Whitmore of Burlingame; his two brothers, Jimmie Tevis of Scranton and Bruce Tevis of Lyndon; his sister, Linda Tevis Osborn of Carbondale. 13 grandchildren and many neices and nephews.
Funeral services for Gene will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 21 at the Mt. Pleasant Community Church southeast of Lyndon. Burial with Navy honors will be at the Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30pm on Saturday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Colmery-O'Neil V.A.
