Overbrook--Gene A. Hanner, 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, Kansas. He was born on October 21, 1930 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Earl and Alma Townsend Hanner.
Gene grew up in St. Joseph where he graduated from Central High School. He had lived on the farm near Overbrook for the last 45 years.
Gene was a Truck Driver for North American Van Lines, for Ed Marlings in Topeka, the Overbrook CO-OP and worked for the Township as a Road Grader and Dump Truck driver. He had served in the Missouri National Guard and the United States Air Force during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953.
On May 2, 1953 Gene was married to JoAnn Richwine in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma; a sister, Virginia Bentley; and a granddaughter, Mariah Lehrbach.
Gene is survived by his wife JoAnn of 62 years; his two sons, Ron Hanner of Overbrook and David Hanner of Osage City; his two daughters, Patricia Ficklin of Tecumseh and Cynthia Wagner of Carbondale; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Gene will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 8 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Valley Brook Cemetery south of Overbrook.
