Obituary

Lawrence – Gary D. Lane, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at his home in Lawrence, Kansas.

Gary was born on January 11, 1942, in Osage City, Kansas, the son of William and Alice (Martin) Lane. He was raised in Osage City, and later lived in Tonganoxie from 1994 to 2006, before moving to Burlington, and eventually settling in Lawrence in 2022.

A dedicated and talented brick mason, Gary was proud of his craft and was a longtime member of the Topeka and Kansas City Local Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. He also served with the U.S. Army Reserves in the 129th Transportation Company. Gary was actively involved in the community of Osage City, holding memberships with the American Legion Post, the Lion's Club, and the Eagles.

On May 28, 1965, Gary was united in marriage to Judy Hodges in Osage City. Together they raised three children: Michelle, Kevin, and Kristi.

Gary was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Lane (May 10, 2025); his father, William Lane; his mother and stepfather, Alice and John Black; two brothers, Bob and Tom Lane; two sisters, Maxine Criqui and Coleen Keeffe; and in-laws William and Hazle Hodges.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Judy; daughters Michelle (Todd) Henricks and Kristi (Drew) Heintzelman; seven grandchildren: Victoria Govea, Alexandra Fiedler, Garrison Fiedler, Isabella Webb, Gage Heintzelman, Eve Heintzelman, and Reid Heintzelman; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Darlene Haskins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, at the Presbyterian Church in Osage City. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Osage City Cemetery.
