Quenemo - Fred Ivan Sweetwood, 67, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at his home in Quenemo, Kansas. He was born on February 12, 1956, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Clinton and Kathleen (Knight) Sweetwood.

Fred graduated from Prairie View High School at LaCygne, Kansas in 1974. He had lived all of his life in the Quenemo community. He was a truck driver for over 30 years and retired after 20 years driving for Wal-Mart due to his health. He was involved in Wreaths Across America, Wal-Mart Heart, Trucker Buddy and Veterans Programs. He loved to fish, hunt, camping, Nascar and the Chiefs. His family was his life, and he was so proud of all of them.

On September 23, 1977, Fred was united in marriage to Cassandra Woodward in Vassar. To this union two children were born, Scott and Melissa.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Kathleen; his sister, Carol Cornett; and his grandson, Skylar Sweetwood.

Fred is survived by his wife, Cassandra, of the home; his son, Scott Sweetwood of Ottawa; his daughter, Melissa Smith of Quenemo; his two sisters, Madeline (Don) Carson of Quenemo and Pearl (Leon) Callahan of LaCygne; his brother-in-law, Raymond Cornett of Garnett; his four grandchildren, Tannar, Caden, Autumn and Koda; and his great-granddaughter, Skylar.

Funeral services for Fred will be at 1:30pm on Thursday, July 20 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Pomona. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
