Eugene Robinson, 98, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Vintage Park in Osage City, Kansas. He was born on December 1, 1918 in Burlingame, Kansas the son of Fitzhugh and Lucille Griffin Robinson.
Gene, as he was known to all, grew up in Burlingame, had lived many years in the Kansas City area before retiring to Holiday Cove on Pomona Lake. He had been at Vintage Park in Osage City for the last several years.
Gene served with the United States Army in the 28th Division during World War II in Europe. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and conductor for 38 years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #18 of Ottawa, a life member of the VFW in Ottawa and the American Legion Post #125 in Lyndon. Gene had been a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church and he was a founding member of the Vassar Polecats bluegrass music group.
On June 29, 1940 Gene was married to Lucile Pantle in Strong City, KS. Lucile preceded Gene in death on August 28, 1999. Gene then married Helen Gerdes on July 3, 2003. Helen preceded Gene in death on December 27, 2007. Gene was also preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Gaylord and Dian Robinson.
Gene is survived by his son, Keith (Terry) Robinson of Paola; his step daughter, Carole Newell of Topeka; his step son, Wayne Gerdes of Topeka; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Gene will be at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 7 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Inurnment will be in the Vassar Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to service time at the chapel.
