BURLINGTON – Edwin Eugene McCoy, 76, departed this life on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He was born July 15, 1944, in Yates Center, Kansas, the son of Edwin W. and Mona E. (Woodcock) McCoy. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1962.
Edwin enlisted in the United States Air Force on May 25, 1965. He was an Aircraft Fuel System Mechanic where he earned the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1968 after serving in the Vietnam War.
On May 23, 1970 in Wichita, KS, Edwin married Christine M. Peterson. To this union they were blessed with two sons, Bryan and David McCoy. They later divorced.
Edwin was a career tradesman as a welder, mechanic and carpenter. He worked for Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, KS and later moved to Owasso, OK, where he worked for Miser Top Soil and Asphalt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mona McCoy, and his sister, Virginia Shepherd.
Edwin is survived by his two sons, Bryan E. McCoy (Julie) of Vassar, KS and David E. McCoy of Burlington, KS; four grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Garrett, & Katelynn McCoy; and five great-grandchildren, Leah Rowland, Colt Higginbotham, Mason Rowland, Emmett Higginbotham, Michael Rowland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Osage City, KS. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Burial will be at the Gridley Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. in Gridley, KS. Military honors will be after the final blessings at the gravesite.
