Lyndon--Donald "Don" Sloop, 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on January 28, 1930 in rural Lyndon, the son of Lyle and Berneita Fanning Sloop.
Don had lived all of his life in and around the Lyndon community. He graduated from Lyndon High School in 1949.
Don was a Farmer and Stockman and owned and operated Sloop Sales and Service near Lyndon for 30 years. Don served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church, the Future Farmers of America and the National Farmers Organization. He served on the Olivet and Valley Brook Township Boards, the Rural Water Board and was a Vermeer Master Dealer in 2002.
On March 13, 1954, Don was married to Frances Borgelt in Kansas City, Missouri.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Frances on September 1, 2017; a son, Scott Sloop; his parents, Lyle and Berneita; a son-in-law, Cliff Alexander; a sister, Jean Burns-Johnson; an infant sister, Rose Anne Sloop; a niece Jima Hope; and a nephew, Cory Sloop.
Don is survived by his six children, Diane Alexander of Topeka, Sandra (Mark) Silver of Pulaski, Tennessee, David (Carla) Sloop of Lyndon, Lynda (Robert) Farwell of Lyndon, Leeanna (Jerry) Remmert of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Susan (Assem) Baayoun of Wichita; five brothers, L.D. Sloop of Holton, Kenneth (Ann) Sloop of Topeka, Bill (Joan) Sloop of Osage City, Arlon (Frances) Sloop of Kansas City, Missouri and Dale (Pat) Sloop of Bel Air, Maryland; four sisters, Evelyn Hope-Jones of Topeka, Eula (Kenny) Nitcher of Pomona, Norma (Gary) Miller of Lecompton and Kathy (Don) Tevis of Emporia; twenty-one grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 22, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00pm on Friday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, Alzheimer's Association or the Lyndon United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
