Ottawa--David R. Potter, 68, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his home in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on February 21, 1948 in Ottawa, the son of Ray and Orpha Hoover Potter.
David had lived in Ottawa all of his life. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and when he returned to Ottawa, he worked for the City of Ottawa and drove a bus for the schools and senior center. He was a member of the NRA, he loved his grandkids and enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting and studying Native American culture.
David was married to Sandra Gilliam, they later divorced, he then married Gwen Todd, they later divorced.
David was preceded in death by his father, Ray Potter.
David is survived by his mother, Orpha of Ottawa; his five children, Rachelle Sutton of Kansas, Travis Potter of Kansas City, Missouri, Heather Nicholson-Moore, Corey Moore and Ryan Moore, all of Ottawa; his brother, Randall Potter of Topeka; and three grandchildren, with one on the way.
A funeral service for David will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, December 27 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends one half hour before services on Tuesday. David will be cremated following services and inurnment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.
