Melvern - Darrel Dean Seems, 87, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Osage City, Kansas. He was born on January 7, 1936, in Smith Center, Kansas, the son of James and Ellen (Garbeau) Seems.

Darrel had grown up in Smith Center and had traveled while working construction. He had lived in Melvern since 1970.

Darrel had worked on Melvern Dam and had been a Heavy Equipment Operator and a member of Local #101 Operators Union.

On December 23, 1956, Darrel was united in marriage to Norma Jean Gaudren in Smith Center, Kansas. To this union three sons and a daughter were born, Mike, Monty, Michele and Martin.

Darrel was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, his son, Monty, and his daughter, Michele.

Darrel is survived by his two sons, Mike Seems of LaQuinta, California and Martin Seems of Lyndon; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service for Darrel will be at 2:00pm on Monday, November 6 at the Melvern Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the City of Melvern (for cemetery upkeep and maintenance).
