Vassar--Charles "Charlie" Overbaugh, 82, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kansas, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on June 30, 1938 in Overbrook, Kansas, the son of Fred and Beulah Warren Overbaugh.

Charlie lived most of his life in the Vassar community.

Charlie was raised working alongside his dad at the Overbaugh Garage in Vassar. He was a talented carpenter and he built and remodeled many homes around the area for over 40 years. He was a volunteer firefighter, became a captain and was on the fire department board of the Lyndon/Vassar Fire District #5 from 1986 to 2008 and he was on the board of the Osage Rural Water District #3 and managed the water plant for 20 years. He was a project leader for the Vassar Blue Ribbon 4-H group for 11 years. He was especially proud of being Papa to his grandson, Wyatt, and loved attending all of his school and 4-H events. Charlie loved to tinker in his garage and there wasn't much he couldn't build or repair. He was always a neighbor you could count on and didn't know a stranger. He enjoyed old tractors, a good joke and watching PBR. He loved his family to no end.

On July 15, 1967 Charlie was married to Sharon Cade in Quenemo, Kansas. To this union three daughters were born, Janine, Jolene and Kristen.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Beulah; and by two infant grand daughters, Gracie Renee Dorr and Emma Grace Dorr.

Charlie is survived by his three daughters, Janine Dorr and husband Dustin of Lebo, Jo Bethell and husband Jeff and Kris Overbaugh, all of Melvern; his grandson, Wyatt Dorr; Sharon Overbaugh of Vassar; his two sisters, Mary Lou Glover of Burlingame and Kary Sue Miller and husband, Jim of Hoisington; eight nieces and nephews, other relatives, countless friends and all of his coffee drinking buddies at Lamont Hill.

On Saturday, December 12, from 2:00 to 5:30pm, the public may come in to sign his register book and view Charlie's displays at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00pm. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions for Charlie may be made to his grandsons 4-H club, Blue Ribbon 4-H of Lebo, sent in care of the funeral home.
