Cherryvale - Carla Marie Poertner, 69, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026 at Advena Living in Cherryvale, Kansas. She was born on March 27, 1957, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Doris (Sanner) Poertner.

Carla had grown up in Lyndon and had lived in Wichita and Fredonia. She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1975. Carla attended Ottawa University and later graduated from St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas.

Carla worked at Jostens in Topeka and then as a health care provider for in-home care and nursing home care.

Carla was married to Kenneth Simon, they later divorced. She married Danny Skaggs until he preceded her in death. She had a significant other in Charles Milam.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Doris; and by her sister, Sally Voiers.

Carla is survived by her brother, Herman (Diane) Poertner of Lyndon; by her nieces and nephews, Ray Voiers, Annie Seel, Jonnie Voiers Kitselman, Carl Voiers, Melissa Voiers, Mark Voiers and Austen Poertner; by two special cousins, Vicki and Velerie Eddleman; other relatives and friends.

Carla's wishes were to be cremated with no services. Inurnment will be in the Vassar Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Carla may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
