Osage City - Betty Jean Woodward, 88, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the Osage Nursing Center in Osage City, Kansas. She was born on September 2, 1935, in Burlingame, Kansas, the daughter of George and Hazel (Howe) Fry.

Betty grew up in Burlingame, lived there till she was 18 and then lived in Vassar for 50 years. She then lived in Emporia, Overbrook and Osage City.

Betty worked as a linotype operator for the Journal Free Press in Osage City. She worked for the State of Kansas Department of Administration as an accountant for 25 years. She was a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, and had volunteered at Stormont-Vail and Newman hospitals.

On December 22, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Harold Woodward, Jr. in Burlingame. To this union three children were born, Cassandra, Jane and David.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on February 9, 2005; by her parents, George and Hazel; by her son in law, Fred Sweetwood; by her brother, John Fry; by her brother in law, George Ohlson; by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Betty is survived by her three children, David Woodward of Osage City, Cassandra Sweetwood of Quenemo and Jane (Joe) Smith of Vassar; her two sisters, Helen Ohlson of Wichita and Linda (Dean) Schutter of Topeka; her sister in law, Charlene Fry of Topeka; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one grea-great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Betty will be at 10:00am on Thursday, August 8 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Betty Woodward Memorial Fund, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
