VASSAR – Bernice May (Soverns) Flynn, 85, of Vassar, Kansas, departed this life Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born September 2, 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas the daughter of Robert and Bertha (Krautlarger) Soverns. She graduated in 1953 Central High School in Kansas City, Kansas.
Bernice worked in her early years in retail at F. W. Woolworths. She later was employed at TG & Y, a variety store in Kansas City, and retired in 1992.
On March 31, 1980, Bernice was united in marriage to John Joseph Flynn Jr. in Oklahoma. They shared over forty years of marriage before John passed away a few months ago on August 30, 2020.
Bernice was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church in Pomona, Kansas. She enjoyed caring for her animals, crocheting, shopping and traveling, specifically her favorite destination to Branson, Missouri. Bernice loved to cook and was known for her homemade fudge and peanut brittle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Flynn Jr.; two sisters, Louise Orndorff and Doris Rasch; and a stepson, Ronald M. Flynn.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Sandy Belknap of Kansas City, Kansas; a stepdaughter, Becky Noone (Donnie) of Kansas City, Kansas; a stepson, Larry J. Flynn of Overland Park, Kansas; her two brothers, Carl and Robert Jr. Soverns both of Kansas City, Kansas; her sister, Linda Rolland of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon, Kansas with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow to the Vassar Cemetery in Vassar, Kansas. The family will also greet friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Help House in Lyndon c/o Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
