Lyndon - Arthur John "Art" Stephens, 84, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Rock Creek Care Facility in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on August 9, 1938, the son of William R. and Ethel Mae (Breeden) Stephens in Arvonia, Kansas.

Art farmed for many years, and he worked as a janitor at the Osage County Courthouse in Lyndon for 15 years. He and his wife owned and operated the A&L Cafe in Lyndon until retirement. He ran a small engine repair shop for 30 years, until his health would no longer allow it. Art served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1956 to 1964.

On February 18, 1960, Art was united in marriage to LaVera Williams in Lyndon.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Mae; his brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Martha (Williams) Stephens.

Art is survived by his wife LaVera of 63 years; his four children, Chuck Mayfield of Osage City, Connie Hensley and husband Todd of Reading, Darlene Potter and husband Gary of Osage City, and John Stephens and wife Tabitha of Deland, Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Art was cremated and the family will have a celebration of life gathering this summer.
