LYNDON
Lyndon--Arlo Bell, 91, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Osage Nursing Center in Osage City, Kansas. He was born on November 9, 1928 near Lyndon, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Lucille Warren Bell.
Arlo had lived most all of his life on the family farm west of Lyndon and he graduated from Lyndon High School.
Arlo was a farmer, but he had worked as a printer for over 50 years. While a freshman in high school, he started work for the Lyndon Herald, then worked for the Osage County Free Press, Osage County Chronicle and then the Osage County Herald-Chronicle. For many years he wrote the Remember When column. He even played a printer in the 1977 TV movie, "Mary White". Arlo served in the Army Air Force during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Osage City, the National Farmers Organization, the Salt Creek Water Shed, Osage County Historical Society, Rural Water District #6 and the Presbyterian Session.
On February 26, 1956, Arlo was married to Gladys Ellen Scrimsher in Topeka, Kansas.
Arlo was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, on March 31, 2010; by his parents, Ralph and Lucille; and by one sister, Shirley Bowers.
Arlo is survived by his sister, Nina Gragg, of Emporia and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current situation, a private family service will be held on Wednesday. Arlo will lie in state from 3:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday at the Feltner Funeral Home in Lyndon for family and friends to sign the register book and view. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Osage City, sent in care of the funeral home.
