Obituary

Overbrook-Albert Smith, 95, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. He was born on July 17, 1923 on the family farm north of Osage City, Kansas, the son of Virgil and Florence Anderson Smith, Sr.
Albert had lived near Richland before moving to a farm north of Overbrook.
Albert served in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He had farmed for 68 years. He served on the ASCS committee for 16 years, the Elk Township Board, the Farmers Co-Op Board and he helped initiate and organize the Overbrook Volunteer Fire Department. Albert was a member of the Overbrook United Methodist Church, the Richland American Legion and the Overbrook American Legion.
On December 17, 1949, Albert was married to Letha Ecord in Richland. To this union three sons and a daughter were born.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Florence; by six brothers, Ralph, Wilmer, Lloyd, Arlie, Virgil, Jr. and Charlie Smith; and by four sisters, Elsie Anderson, Frances de Lain, Jessie Hoy and Letha Smith.
Albert is survived by his wife Letha of 69 years; his four children, Bruce (Debbie) Smith of Moore, Oklahoma, Karen (Leroy) Stromgren of Osage City, Neil (Joni) Smith of Overbrook and Russell (Stephanie) Smith of Overbrook; a brother, Hayden Smith of Berryton; a sister, Alice Schneider of Plano, Texas; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Albert will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 19 at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday at the church in the Fellowship Hall. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Overbrook United Methodist Church, the Busy Bee Club or the Overbrook American Legion Post #239, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
